To the day of the Turkmen carpet:
Today, Turkmenistan widely celebrated the Day of Turkmen Carpet. The capital hosted International exhibition and XIX Conference of the World Turkmen Carpet Connoisseurs Association.
Turkmen carpet is a national treasure and a true artwork. The wool hand-made carpets admire numerous travelers and collectors.
Sometimes you look at the smallest knots with a verified geometric pattern and wonder how, in ancient times, carpet-makers knew how to accurately calculate the distance between göls, ornaments, without sketches and marks. If measure it with a ruler, the distance will be same all over the carpet.
Ornamentalism is of special admiration. Each tribe weaved carpets with its own special pattern. And each carpet weaver, as a true artist, put her own plot into the carpet. It is a true that it is impossible to find two identical Turkmen carpets! Each of them is in a single copy and keeps a part of the soul, the mood and memory of the one that has created it carefully and stubbornly for months, and even years.
Look at the color combination. Bright scarlet, deep black, sunny yellow and pure white. Painted with natural dyes – more than a hundred years ago or just yesterday – the color would not fade. It is not surprising that carpets in many families are passed from generation to generation as a great value and cherished object.
Today, the traditions of Turkmen carpet weaving get close with modern trends putting new characters and stories into the plots of carpets. New machinery and technologies capable of weaving a carpet in an hour, as well as new carpet factories and plants are putting into operation. And their products are of same high quality and elegance.
However, the Turkmen carpet weavers are still sitting at their machines, compacting the rows of knots with a special instrument “darak”, singing national melodies and showing the secrets of interlacing threads to their daughters-assistants. Who knows maybe this fact makes hand-made Turkmen carpets a value that you want to keep and pass from generation to generation as precious family heirloom from the old times?
