Afghan cyclists arrive in Turkey along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor


A group of 10 Afghan cyclists traveling along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor reached its last destination, Turkey. Having traveled two thousand kilometers from Herat in Afghanistan and further through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, they arrived in Turkish Istanbul.
According to the cyclists, they were warmly welcomed by the citizens of the countries they visited as part of their tour.
“We managed to achieve our goal - to convey the message of peace and friendship to the peoples of the countries through which the route passes,” said group leader Mohammad Seddik Jami
“Azerbaijan will continue cooperation with Afghan athletes,” said Deputy Head of the Cycling Federation of Azerbaijan, Farhad Aliyev.
Travel to Turkey along the Lapis Lazuli Corridor started on April 20. The initiative proposed by the Afghan Cycling Federation was approved by President Ashraf Ghani, who allocated 3 million Afghanis for cyclists.
A group of cyclists arrived in Ashgabat on April 25.
