Portrait of Pushkin by Kiprensky - in the frame of carpet ornaments

The All-Russian Museum of Decorative Art in Moscow has prepared an original exhibition project, “My Pushkin”, for the 220th anniversary of the great poet.
The exhibition will feature exhibits from public museums and private collections: works of decorative and applied art, painting, graphics, sculpture, rare book publications, philocarty, excerpts from memoirs, excerpts from books, as well as movie fragments.
All of them, one way or another, reflect the image of Pushkin, the plots and heroes of his writings in folk art, art and literature, in popular culture. But the most unusual exhibit, according to the organizers, will be the Turkmen carpet, which reproduces the famous portrait of Pushkin by Orest Kiprensky.
It was about this portrait that Alexander Sergeevich said: “I see myself as in a mirror, but this mirror flatters me”.
However, visitors to the exhibition will see a portrait in the carpet "performance", complemented by a rich ornamental design. Thus, Turkmen masters expressed their veneration for the genius, whose art is also often compared to high poetry.
The exhibition will open on June 7, immediately after the birthday of the poet, which is invariably celebrated in Turkmenistan, starting traditionally by laying flowers at the bust of Pushkin and poetry readings in a cozy Ashgabat public garden named after the great poet.
