The excise tax rate on tobacco products in Turkmenistan has approached 100%

The excise tax rate on tobacco products imported into Turkmenistan has been increased by 19 percentage points and has reached 93% of the customs value, but not less than $4 per pack.

The corresponding amendment to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan was published today in the official Turkmen press.

The excise tax on other industrially manufactured tobacco and its substitutes increased by $3.9 and amounted to $19.5 per 1 kg.

Help: excise tax is an indirect tax on a product that is introduced to regulate demand for it. An increase in excise rates leads to an increase in prices and a decrease in demand, and a decrease leads to a reduction in price and an increase in demand.

Excise tax rates on tobacco and alcohol products in Turkmenistan are regularly increased. In February , the country had accepted National program for the liberation of Turkmenistan from tobacco by 2025.
