Turkmenistan aims to form new transport and transit routes

Turkmenistan stands for the realization and unification of the transport potentials of the countries of the region in order to achieve the strategic goal of creating a modern infrastructure capable of uniting the transport systems of Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Chairman of the agency "Turkmen Railways" Azat Atamuradov told about this on Tuesday in Ashgabat at the conference "International transport and transit corridors: interconnectedness and development".

"Noting the existence of unrealized opportunities for intraregional transport communication, Turkmenistan is carrying out systematic work to transform Central Asia into a modern, combined, highly efficient transport hub, combining efforts to develop transport and transit corridors and logistics," Atamuradov said.
To this end, a working group was established at the government level in Turkmenistan to study the possibilities of forming new transport, transit and communication routes in the directions of Central Asia - the Caspian–Black Sea region with access to Southern Europe, as well as Central Asia - the Middle East.
Work is actively underway on the practical implementation of previously agreed routes, including the international transport and transit corridors Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman-Qatar, Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-the Caspian Sea, etc.
Currently, the national railway network of Turkmenistan is connected with the countries of the region, the chairman of the agency "Turkmen Railways" said. He noted that the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway of the North–South international transport corridor was built and put into operation. Thanks to this route, one of the container lines from China was launched.

In an effort to maximize the existing impressive potential in the transport sector, Turkmenistan is successfully implementing targeted national programs aimed at comprehensive modernization of the material and technical base of the transport industry in the aggregate of all its segments.
Atamuradov also stressed that Turkmenistan expresses readiness to discuss the possibility of using the capacities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport on favorable conditions for regional neighbors, capable of exporting products from Central Asian countries to the markets of Europe, Russia, Transcaucasia, the Near and Middle East.
