The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway is a significant part of the Eurasian network
The special importance of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway, which is part of the international North-South transport corridor, was noted by Miroslav Antonovich, Chairman of the Committee of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD), joining the international forum on transport and transit corridors held in Ashgabat online.
– This highway will create additional routes that connect Kazakhstan, the central regions of Russia and Turkmenistan with Iran, the countries of the Persian Gulf region, South and Southeast Asia. It increases transit freight and passenger transportation and reduces transportation costs, saves time for travel and will contribute to economic growth," Antonovich said.
He stressed that the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway allows the participating states of the project to enter the world markets and is a very important part of the railway network of Eurasia.
To date, Turkmenistan is also a member of the OSZhD corridors No. 6 and No. 10, Miroslav Antonovich added, noting that Turkmenistan has joined the agreements on the international transit tariff and the unified transit tariff of OSZhD. This will not only allow Turkmenistan to develop a convenient platform for agreeing common tariffs for transit on the routes China and Europe, but also strengthen cooperation and ties and open up new opportunities for the development of transportation.
According to Antonovich, these goals are also facilitated by the widespread use of a single waybill on railway routes - a document that is currently being developed within the Organization.
– In the context of new scientific and technical developments, the latest technologies, including digital ones, OSZhD is constantly transforming, progressing, looking for new ways to improve and develop the railways of the member countries. Reducing the time during the passage of border and customs procedures, reducing the number of documents and eliminating paper document flow, increasing the speed of transportation – these and other areas of activity allow us to meet all the requirements and challenges of our time," Antonovich said.
