The Turkmenbashi Seaport cooperates with 35 private transport and logistics companies

The International Seaport of Turkmenbashi has stimulated public-private partnership in the transport and logistics sector of Turkmenistan, in which dozens of private companies have been formed in recent years. In particular, 35 local companies cooperate with the port, and they also contribute to the development of its green infrastructure.
This was told by the head of the international seaport of Turkmenbashi Seyitguly Bayseidov, speaking at a conference on transport and transit corridors, which opened in Ashgabat on Monday.
Seyitguly Bayseidov took part in the session "Environmental aspects of sustainable transport", where the role of public-private partnership in the development of green infrastructure was also considered.
Turkmenistan has also joined a number of international conventions in this field, including on civil liability for damage from oil pollution, on the prevention of pollution from ships, on international rules for preventing collisions at sea and others.
The port has established an emergency rescue service at sea to fulfill the requirements and obligations arising from the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea and the National Action Plan for the Caspian Sea.
Bayseidov emphasized the important geopolitical importance of the port of Turkmenbashi in Eurasia. Being on the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) trade route, it is able to receive vessels throughout the year, carry out loading and unloading operations around the clock, its throughput capacity is 17 million tons of cargo per year, excluding petroleum products.
According to the head of the port, the total volume of cargo transshipment through its terminals in 2021 amounted to more than 11.3 million tons. Most of them are exports – over 6.5 million tons. Imports amounted to 1.2 million tons, and transit - 353 thousand tons.
In order to assess the activities that have an impact on the environment, together with the Kaspecokontrol service, environmental monitoring is carried out monthly: samples are taken for the study of seawater for 14 ingredients, soil samples for the content of petroleum products, atmospheric air analyses are carried out, and other environmental aspects are assessed. An action plan is being developed to prevent marine pollution during loading operations with oil-containing and chemical bulk cargoes in the port, which describes in detail the mandatory measures to prevent the risks of marine pollution.
