Turkmen-Russian agro-cooperation to legal frames
The Russian side approved the draft intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian agreement on cooperation in the field of agriculture, says official website of the Russian government.
The draft bilateral instrument was developed by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, and worked out with Turkmen party.
It is expected that the agreement will lay the legal foundations for further enhancing the interaction between Turkmenistan and Russia in such areas of agriculture as farming, livestock, veterinary, seed production and breeding, melioration, irrigation, processing and trade in agricultural products, agricultural machinery, scientific research.
In practice, the partnership in these areas is planned to be implemented through the exchange of innovative developments, realization of joint investment projects, mutual participation in agricultural fairs, organization of joint scientific conferences, seminars and roundtables on agro-topics, exchange of seeds and seedlings, animals, breeding material, supporting establishment of direct ties between sectoral enterprises and personnel training.
The agreement is planned to be concluded for 5-year term and would be automatically extended for the successive similar period.
The agriculture is one of the main spheres of the Turkmen-Russian economic partnership. According to the statistics of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, in the structure of Russia's exports to Turkmenistan in Q2 2017, the major share of supplies fell on food products and agricultural raw materials (29.22%). At the same time, the largest gains in Russian imports from Turkmenistan in the same period was recorded for such commodity groups as cotton, edible vegetables, certain roots, tubers, fruits and nuts.
