On June 8, 2022, the third meeting of foreign ministers of the China-Central Asia format took place in Nur-Sultan. At the meeting, the "China + Five Central Asian Countries Initiative to Deepen Interconnection and Cooperation" was adopted.

The main content of the document is cooperation in the transport sector. In particular, the parties aim to make full use of the advantages of cross-border rail transport. In this plan, it is planned to take measures to increase the volume of cargo and the capacity of railways and stations, modernize infrastructure and rolling stock.

Separately, the document stipulates the possibility of signing an agreement on container transportation between China, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

The Ministers agreed that it is necessary to actively develop the transit and transport potential of seaports such as Turkmenbashi and Aktau, simplify documents, procedures and requirements related to international road transport.

The document also says that, depending on the epidemic situation, direct passenger flights between China and major cities of Central Asian countries will be gradually resumed. And China has expressed its readiness to conduct training courses on epidemic prevention and control in civil aviation for Central Asian countries.

Along with this, the diplomats agreed to explore the possibility of opening new air routes between China and the Central Asian countries.

In light of the development of the epidemic situation, countries will adjust visa and entry-exit policies, simplify visa procedures, optimize customs clearance regimes for goods and promote more active and unhindered movement of goods and people.
