Turkmenistan and UN agencies discussed preparations for the population census
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, met with the head of the demographic statistics department of the UN Statistics Office, Srdjan Mrkic.
The focus of face-to-face talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country was preparations for conducting a complete census of the population and housing stock of Turkmenistan in 2022.
Meredov also welcomed the new country director of the United Nations Population Fund, Olaf Ronnie Lindstrom, and confirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to traditional cooperation with this UN body.
The parties considered the organizational issues of conducting a population census and the forms of applying the experience of international structures and expert assistance in this campaign.
Other areas of cooperation were also discussed, including the collection and analysis of statistical data, gender equality and women's empowerment, well-being and development of youths.
