Turkmenistan took part in the ministerial meeting "CA + Japan"


The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the countries of the Dialogue "Central Asia + Japan" held the 8th meeting on Friday via videoconference. The diplomats discussed topical issues of cooperation and key topics on the international agenda.
Turkmenistan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev. Speaking to his colleagues, he singled out the digitalization of industries among the priorities of economic cooperation on the “CA + Japan” platform and called for the pooling of efforts and resources of the states of the region and the world in the fight against the pandemic and in overcoming its negative consequences. In this context, Khadzhiev noted the importance of exchanging experience on a regular basis among medical scientists and other specialists, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Representatives of the foreign ministries of the Dialogue countries considered issues of strengthening border security, ensuring regional stability and creating conditions for enhancing the economic integration of Central Asia. A special topic of discussion was the role of the international community in normalizing the situation in Afghanistan, and, first of all, the countries of Central Asia as its neighbors.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said in the course of the meeting that he believes that a free and open Central Asia has entered an era where it upholds and strengthens the international order based on the rule of law and aims at sustainable development. He expressed readiness of Japan to continue cooperation with the Central Asian countries as a major and reliable partner, according to the website of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
Hayashi said he hopes to hold the next, 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Central Asia+ Japan Dialogue in Tokyo face-to-face. Representatives of the Central Asian countries welcomed this proposal, and it was decided to agree on specific dates for the next meeting.
The Central Asia + Japan Dialogue was launched in August 2004. In the framework As part of the Dialogue, 8 meetings of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs were held (the last face-to-face meeting took place in May 2019 in Tajikistan, and the meeting in August 2020 was held virtually).
