On April 8, it is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation. This date became one of the topics of the briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, held the day before, on April 6.

“Relations between Moscow and Ashgabat, which since 2017 have been elevated to the rank of strategic partnership, are characterized by equality and mutual respect, careful consideration of each other's interests. Their core elements remain dynamic trade and economic ties, mutually beneficial cooperation across the regions, constructive interaction at key international and regional platforms, including the CIS, the Caspian Five, as well as the UN, the OSCE and the CA5 + Russia dialogue mechanism," Zakharova said.

She noted that the positions of the countries on topical international issues largely coincide or are very consonant. "Russia highly appreciates the neutral status of Turkmenistan, which in fact proves to be a factor in maintaining peace, security and stable development in Central Asia and the Caspian region," the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, a number of joint events are organized timed to this date, including exhibitions, scientific conferences, and cultural exchanges. The Russian and Turkmen foreign ministries will also make their contribution to this work.

At the briefing, Maria Zakharova also drew attention to the issue of proclaiming the World Day of the Russian Language, which will be considered one of these days within the framework of the 214th session of the UNESCO Executive Board at the Organization's headquarters in Paris.

In addition to the Russian Federation, the co-sponsors of the relevant draft decision are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, North Korea, Cuba, Nicaragua, Palestine, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
