The British Ambassador noted the "green" orientation of OGT-2022
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Turkmenistan, Lucia Wild, who took part in the work of the International Investment Forum "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan", shared her impressions with ORIENT.
– I am glad to be present at OGT-2022, where the problems of the future of world energy and regional energy security, investment support for the oil and gas sector are comprehensively considered. It presents the experience of individual countries and companies, as well as private issues of oil and gas processing. Major players in the energy market demonstrate their capabilities.
But if in the recent past at such conferences mainly traditional fuels were considered, now renewable energy sources are beginning to occupy their niche. At present, they are increasingly attracting the attention of not only scientists and specialists, but also large companies and high-ranking statesmen.
This conference is very representative. Members of the Turkmen government, heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations, heads and representatives of relevant ministries, financial institutions, major foreign companies, including from the UK, are present here.
For example, British Petroleum is one of the leading oil and gas companies in the present-day world, which is constantly increasing investments in low-carbohydrate technologies and plans to accelerate the development of the hydrogen cluster. And BP, as I know, is interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan. It is planned that a conference on investments in the oil and gas complex of Turkmenistan will be held in London in the middle of this year. Perhaps then there will be a working contact on interaction between the companies of our countries. But this will happen in the future. And today it is remarkable that together in Ashgabat we are discussing issues of vital importance for all mankind.
I listened attentively to the speeches of the forum participants, which made an impression on me. In turn, the Embassy of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, accredited in Turkmenistan, seeks to establish productive relations between Turkmen specialists and our companies, which have gained certain experience and developed technologies for converting wind, solar, hydrogen and other types of energy from the category of green technologies.
This year we want to pay special attention to climate change issues. The Embassy plans to organize round tables in video format between specialists from Great Britain and Turkmenistan, to consider the decisions taken at the UN conference on climate change, which was held in Glasgow, Scotland.
It was nice to see a high-level Turkmen delegation at that forum. Shortly before my arrival in Ashgabat, I got acquainted with the presentation presented by the Turkmen delegation in Glasgow, and I was very impressed.
Here, during the break, many of us shared our impressions of the work of OGT-2022. And everyone agreed that the forum is not only interesting, but also useful for everyone.
– The task on a global scale is to do everything possible to, on the one hand, provide mankind with sustainable energy, and on the other hand, mitigate the negative impact of climate change on our planet – on people, flora and fauna, water and soil resources.
And I am glad that the British Embassy in Turkmenistan has the opportunity to support our governments in this most important task today.
