SOCAR vice president on cooperation with Turkmenistan: “We need to build faster…”
– It is impossible to overestimate the importance of this forum, especially considering the volatility of the situation in the global energy sector, so I would call this meeting an event of global significance, – Elshad Nasirov, Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan SOCAR, said in an interview with an ORIENT correspondent on the sidelines of the international forum "Oil and gas of Turkmenistan-2022”.
Speaking about the energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, Nasirov noted that the huge potential of this interaction has not yet begun to be used.
– All five states of the Caspian Sea are oil and gas producing powers, so their cooperation should be very close. For example, Azerbaijan is connected by oil pipelines with Georgia, Russia, Iran,” he continued. According to SOCAR vice-president about the prospects for cooperation with Turkmenistan, "it is necessary to build faster before the end of the hydrocarbon civilization."
Elshad Nasirov recalled the famous phrase of the former Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia Ahmed Zaki Yamani: “The Stone Age did not end because the stones ran out. And the oil era will come to an end not because oil will run out…”. Therefore, it is necessary to effectively use the available resources, use new technologies, and build processing enterprises.
“Energy security has ceased to be a commercial concept, today it is equated with the political security of any state,” Nasirov said, noting the importance of Turkmenistan's international initiatives in this regard.
