Addressing Monday at the 72nd annual debate at the United Nations General Assembly, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN, Aksoltan Atayeva, voiced to the world community the main foreign policy initiatives of the country for solving the problems that concern all of humanity today. Supporting global anti-terrorist efforts, Turkmenistan stands for the full implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. “We believe that such work should be carried out everywhere at the global and regional and national levels”, the Ambassador said. Highlighting the role of conflict prevention tools, a high-ranking diplomat recalled that this year the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia celebrates its 10th anniversary. In this regard, the Turkmen delegation intends to submit to the First Committee of the General Assembly a draft resolution, supporting the mechanisms of preventive diplomacy. Aksoltan Atayeva stressed that this year Turkmenistan, as the chairing party of the International Energy Charter Conference, is aimed at intensifying the process of working out a new legal regulator in the field of sustainable energy. “In this context, we welcome the establishment of an international expert group on energy security and sustainable energy and invite nations to participate actively in the work of the International Energy Charter Conference, which will be held on 28-29 November 2017 in Ashgabat”, she said. Ecology and water resources management is another topical issue of the international agenda, touched upon in the statement of the Turkmen side. Turkmenistan, being the chairman of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, initiates the organization of the Summit of the Heads of Founding States of IFSAS in 2018 and invites specialized international institutions. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations expressed gratitude for the support in the adoption of “Joint Statement on Encouraging the Valuable Contribution of the Olympic Refugee Teams in Strengthening Peace and Human Rights” at the recent session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The official Ashgabat confirmed the intention to host 7th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport under the auspices of UNESCO.
