China to host meeting of Afghanistan's neighboring states

In Beijing at the end of March, the third round of the meeting of foreign ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan will be held.

The meeting will be attended by the foreign ministers of Iran, Tajikistan, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan. They will exchange views on humanitarian aid and political issues facing Afghanistan.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected to take part in the meeting .

“This meeting is a good opportunity to discuss, coordinate and regional efforts to provide humanitarian, economic and social support to Afghanistan and to assess actions against terroristic threats and drug trafficking,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

The first and second rounds of the meeting were hosted by Islamabad and Tehran. The Islamabad meeting went through a Zoom conference.

The meeting was discussed during visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Kabul on Thursday, where he held negotiations with the Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister of the Afghan Interim Government.

On the same day, a delegation of the Russian Federation headed by Russia's Special Representative for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov visited Kabul.

The next day, on Friday, Member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe held talks via video link with Minister of Defense of Turkmenistan Begench Gundogdyev. This was reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

China is ready to work with Turkmenistan to implement the important agreements reached by the two heads of state, continue to strengthen strategic ties and deepen practical security cooperation, Wei said.
