The British Embassy in Ashgabat held a tree planting event
The social and environmental action was held on Friday in Ashgabat with the participation of the Embassy of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with the invitation of friends and guests.
British Ambassador Lucia Wilde, who attended the event, explained:
– The fact is that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who planted about one and a half thousand trees around the world, invited her compatriots to follow this wonderful example. And so the project was born, which in translation means “Royal Green Crown” (or “Queen's Green Canopy”).
– The Queen and Prince Charles,- continues Lucia Wilde without looking up, -not so long ago they planted a tree near Windsor Castle. Residents of Great Britain, as well as all employees of diplomatic missions in foreign countries, including in Turkmenistan, joined this initiative. It is doubly pleasant that this action was also supported by our Turkmen friends.
On Friday, Ashgabat activists planted several dozen trees of various species near the Ak Altyn hotel, such as maple, ash, plane tree, and mulberry.
– Our action may seem like a drop in the ocean,- says Lucia Wilde, -now without interrupting the watering of the trees. - However, this is not so, because, as I said, a huge number of not only Her Majesty's subjects, but also citizens of many countries are involved in this project.
The Deputy Head of the British Embassy in Turkmenistan, John Hamilton, who took part in the planting of trees, supported our conversation with pleasure:
– The purpose of this event is to involve young people in the overall fight against climate change, as well as in the implementation of the environmental policy of Turkmenistan.
In support of these words of the diplomat was the enthusiasm with which the young volunteers carefully planted the still fragile trees.
A little later, they were joined by a group of teenagers, including children with disabilities, for whom working together with everyone on an equal footing, raising environmental awareness is an important life lesson.
In the second part of the event, the embassy staff held a kind of environmental education lesson with teenagers, in which about forty representatives of the young generation of Turkmen citizens, from 5 years old to adolescence, took part.
At the end of the event, each of them was presented with a book on the topic of environmental conservation and a memo from the embassy on the same issue.
Moreover, the organizers of the action reminded its participants that ORIENT recently wrote that the British Embassy in honor of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Turkmen-British diplomatic relations announced a competition "Creative Earth".
Its goal is to demonstrate the awareness of the young generation of Turkmen citizens about climate change and environmental issues, as well as to encourage young people to promote solutions to these problems through creativity.
“Those who are between 6 and 18 years old can submit their creative work until April 1st,” said Lucia Wide. So there is still time! After all, protecting our land is the duty of each of us. Is not it?
…By this action the British embassy supported the forthcoming nationwide planting campaign on March 20 in Turkmenistan.
