The second Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC) has brought together not only representatives of scientific community, experts and analysts, but also young specialists – graduates of the Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development (CALP) under the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). On CACCC-2019 platform, youth discussed the need to train the policymakers and researchers of tomorrow, who would be at the forefront of global efforts to create a more sustainable future. “Climate change is a problem of both our and future generations,” Tatyana Shakirova, manager of the Education for Sustainable Development program, CAREC, told to ORIENT. “And we should be more active in involving youth to deal this issue at the national, regional and global levels, to train them to take responsibility for their future.” For the past 10 years, CALP has operated as a neutral Youth Dialogue Platform to enhance the role and voice of young professionals in regional cooperation on various issues, including water management, climate change and green innovations in Central Asia. CAREC launches on-line registration for the 10th Anniversary Central Asian Leadership Programme on Environment for Sustainable Development, which will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in September 2019. Advanced professionals from Central Asia and Afghanistan, working in state, non-governmental, academic and green business sectors are welcomed at the regular Climate Seminar “Towards A Pollution-Free Planet”.
