On February 29, Turkmenistan and Turkey celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations.

Turkey was the first country to recognize Turkmenistan, which declared its independence on October 27, 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on February 29, 1992, and Turkey became the first country to open an embassy in Ashgabat.

Trade and economic relations between the two countries began with the Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation signed in Ankara on December 3, 1991.

If in 1992 the volume of trade between Turkmenistan and Turkey was 7.5 million dollars, then in 2021 this figure increased 226 times and reached 1.7 billion dollars.

Such data is provided by the Turkish TV channel TRT AVAZ in a publication on its website.

It also notes that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the 15th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, held in Ashgabat on November 27-28, said that Turkey and Turkmenistan aim to increase mutual trade to $5 billion.
