In 2021, China increased natural gas imports to 121.356 million tons, which is 19.9% more than in 2020, writes China Business News Network.

Consumption of natural gas in China in 2021 increased due to the transition from coal to cleaner fuels in accordance with Beijing's environmental policy. Thus, China remains the world's largest buyer of natural gas, and is likely to continue to strengthen this position, analysts comment.

Turkmenistan, Russia and Kazakhstan remain the main exporters of pipeline gas to China. The leaders in LNG supplies are Australia, the USA and Qatar.

On February 5, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the expansion of gas cooperation and the construction of the fourth line of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, which should increase the supply of Turkmen blue fuel to China.
