Turkmenistan increased electricity exports by more than 33% in January 2022 compared to January 2021. At the same time, the volume of generation in the country increased by 9.9%.

Such figures were presented for the industry by Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov at a government meeting on Thursday following the results of the past month.

Earlier, ORIENT reported that Turkmenistan was one of the first countries to provide assistance to Uzbekistan in restoring electricity supply after a powerful blackout on January 25th.

In October last year, the agreement on the supply of electricity from Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan was extended for another year. In December 2021, Turkmenistan signed a similar agreement with Kyrgyzstan for electricity supplies in 2022.

Turkmenistan also supplies electricity to Afghanistan and Iran.
