In view of the energy shortage for industrial development, Pakistan aims to accelerate the implementation of two multi-billion dollar energy projects - the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan power transmission line, write regional media.

To discuss the issues of promoting these projects, the country's official authorities invited a government delegation of Turkmenistan to Islamabad, which arrived headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev.

At a meeting with Minister of Energy of Pakistan, Hammad Azhar, various aspects of the implementation of the TAPI and TAP projects were discussed. Azhar emphasized that Islamabad is interested in the early completion of the TAPI project due to Pakistan's growing need for additional supplies of natural gas.

The parties agreed to hold meetings where relevant experts will discuss current technical issues, which is necessary to start the practical implementation of the designated projects.

Today, Pakistan covers a quarter of its natural gas needs through reduced imports. Since the cost of this fuel is tied to world oil prices, Islamabad has recently begun to experience significant pressure on the national industry, as the cost of black gold is growing rapidly and holding at a record level since 2014.
