Berdimuhamedov holds meeting with Turkmenistan's financial and banking authorities
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the leadership of the financial and banking sector of Turkmenistan on Wednesday. Among the main topics was the development of the country's national program of socio-economic development for the next 30 years, which will be discussed at an extraordinary session of the upper house of parliament in February.
A detailed report on the issue was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who said that the preparation of the program was in its final stages. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Finance and Economy Muhammedgeldy Serdarov, who reported on investment in economic development and state support for regional projects.
Central Bank Chairman Gadyrgeldy Mushshikov reported on the results of last year in the work of the Central Bank and its plans for the current year, measures in the field of digital transformation of banking and financing of large projects. The heads of other banks were also reported to the head of state.
The President noted that against the backdrop of objective difficulties in the global economy, Turkmenistan has maintained its macroeconomic indicators at a stable level, achieving a GDP growth of 6.2% in 2021.
Active industrialization with a focus on substitution of imports and growth of exports of domestic goods provided an opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of the economic complex and to give impetus to the foreign trade of the country.
Formulating the forthcoming tasks of the departments of the financial and economic bloc, Berdimuhamedov stressed the importance of improving the regime of monetary policy of the country, financial regulation and monitoring of the targeted use of credit funds allocated for the innovative development of industry and small business projects.
The need to expand partnerships with such institutions as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and others has been highlighted. With regard to the services provided by credit institutions to the population, it is necessary to actively expand their digital profile. All of these tasks must be reflected in the program for the period from 2022 to 2052.
