“Fantasia” Disney Classioc: high art for the little ones for the first time in Ashgabat

A concert of the State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rasul Klychev, which was held today in the Cultural-and-Business Center of the Oil and Gas complex of Turkmenistan caused an unprecedented excitement among residents of Ashgabat.
Before the beginning of the concert, the kids gathered at a small park in front of the building while waiting for a fairy tale and there was such a heart-whole laugh around. It is unusual to see such little admirers of a high art.
The State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rasul Klychev managed to break stereotypes about the “boring” classics and gather both young and adult listeners to a unique cinema-concert “Fantasia” comprised of works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and the popular cartoons of Disney studios.
The germ of the film began when Walt Disney bumped into legendary Philadelphia Orchestra conductor Leopold Stokowski in Hollywood. Disney decided to turn shorts into a full-length feature, with multiple animated shorts scored to a full symphonic concert program of celebrated classical works. Stokowski and his orchestra ended up scoring the entire movie and being shown in “Fantasi’'s” live-action segments.
“Fantasia” was Disney’s love-letter to classical music and became a classic, loved by generations of children and adults. Its premiere took place in New York on November 13, 1940. The animated masterpiece won two special Oscar Awards: one for Stokowski, for creating a new visualized form, and one for Disney, for advancing the use of sound in film.
In 2000, the modern original cinema concert was released, and today, for the first time, it was performed live in Ashgabat.
Having packed the hall, the children was looking with anticipation at the big screen, under which there were chairs and musical instruments. Everyone wanted to see the promised Disney cartoons as soon as possible.
The coming to the stage of dressed-up musicians caused a storm of applause from adults and a puzzled look on the faces of the children, many of whom came to a real concert of classical music for the first time.
Well-dressed ladies and gentlemen took their places, and the announcer appeared on the scene, dressed in a gown like a magician from the Harry Potter. Having promised an unforgettable show to everyone, he introduced the orchestra, conductor, pianist Vladimir Mkrtumov and gone out of the scenes.

Creating their works, composers put their own unique story. The sounds of drums make the passion. Here is lonely flute slowly tells the story of a high.
To feel such plot twists and understand classical music is difficult task even for adults, and it is a quite complicated and difficult to understand for little listeners who are unfamiliar with such emotions.
When well-known images of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and other Disney characters got shapes on the screen, the orchestra began to play in time with their actions.
The kids fixed their eyes on the stage. The picture itself could hardly attract them, but the combination of visual images with music seemed to be hypnotizing. And not only children, but adults, who enthusiastically applauded with “Bravo!” after each animated shorts.
Adapted to the “plots” of the symphonies, the scene tells the story of Mickey Mouse as a sorcerer’s apprentice. He battles an army of broomsticks that come to life as he tries to regain control of his magical abilities.
The harmony symbiosis of two different art styles was perfect to acquaint young residents of Ashgabat with classical music. At the same time, every adult was satisfied with a cinema concert, even if he had never been a fan of classical music.
The State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rasul Klychev created a real fairy tale in which it is surprisingly easy to understand the complicated things and touch the beautiful. The audience thanked the musicians with enthusiastic applause and hoped that the evening presented by the orchestra would be repeated in Turkmenistan in future again.
