American scientists discover a supplementation to delay aging

A supplementation that could improve many age-associated defects in older humans to improve muscle strength and cognition has been revealed. American scientists stated this.
Researchers conducted a pilot clinical trial of the supplementation that is a combination of glycine and acetylcysteine, which is widely used in medicine. In chemical reactions, both of these substances are precursors of the highly effective natural antioxidant glutathione. The supplementation was called GlyNAC, Clinical and Translational Medicine reports.
According to scientists, one of the main causes of aging is the accumulation of free radicals in cells, which glutathione fights against. Interestingly, glutathione levels in older people are much lower.
“There is limited understanding as to why these defects occur in older humans, and effective interventions to reverse these defects are currently limited or lacking,” said Dr. Rajagopal Sekhar.
GlyNAC reverses glutathione deficiency, reduces oxidative stress and fully restores mitochondrial function in older humans as it was shown by results of the clinical studies conducted while working with older adults 70 to 80 years of age.
In particular, the supplementation in older adults improved glutathione deficiency, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction.
Earlier, Makoto Nakanishi, a professor at the Tokyo University of Medicine Research Institute, expressed opinion that a drug to stop aging and rejuvenate the body can enter the wide market in 5-10 years. The scientist’s optimism was based on the fact that Japanese scientists have developed a drug that removes old cells from the body.
