A New EBRD’s Executive Board for Central Asia

Zsuzsanna Hargitai has been appointed as the new Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia, the bank’s press service reported.
“She will take up her duties in mid-May. In this role, she will oversee the bank’s operations in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – a vast region in which the EBRD has invested US $ 16.5 billion (EUR $ 13.7 billion) in the framework of almost 890 projects,” the EBRD informed.
Ms. Hargitai has previously led the EBRD’s operations in a number of countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Hungary and Croatia. She also held senior positions at the bank’s headquarters in London.
Ms. Hargitai substituted the EBRD’s Managing Director for Central Asia, Andre Kuusvek, who was appointed by President of the Northern Investment Bank earlier this year.
Since its inception, the EBRD has invested EUR 295 million in Turkmenistan through 75 projects. The Bank has also provided advisory support to more than 200 small and medium-sized enterprises throughout Turkmenistan. A branch of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development operates in Ashgabat.
The EBBR pays special attention to expanding the activities of private entrepreneurship in the corporate and financial sectors of Turkmenistan.
The EBRD was established in 1991 and its investment instruments are used to explore market economies in 30 countries – from Central Europe to Central Asia.
