The first elections of members of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh (one of the two chambers of the national parliament) were held in Turkmenistan today.
The elections were held by secret ballot and on the basis of indirect (indirect) voting right, when voters elect members of regional councils, which, in turn, elect members of the Halk Maslahaty.
The Central Election Commission registered 112 candidates who competed for 48 seats.
The voting was attended by 231 electors in the regions and in the capital. The campaign was followed by 440 observers. The elections were recognized as valid and the results based on the counting of votes will be announced shortly.
