Turkmen wrestlers won medals at two major international tournaments - the Asian Wrestling Championship until the age of 23, which takes place in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, and the Harlampiev Memorial World Cup in Sambo in Moscow.
Freestyle wrestler from Turkmenistan Azat Hajiyev (92 kg) won the silver medal at the Asian Championships. On the way to the silver medal, the champion of the country took precedence over rivals from Kazakhstan, Mongolia and India.
In total, 6 athletes represent Turkmenistan at the Asian Championship, including the last year's bronze medalist in Bucharest, Dovletmyrat Orazgylydzhov. This is the first tournament of the Turkmen wrestlers under the guidance of a foreign specialist Ramazan Irbaihanov, who is preparing the national team for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
Two silver and three bronze medals were won by Turkmen wrestlers at the Harlampiev Memorial World Sambo Cup, which started on March 22 at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex in Moscow.
The winner of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Charymyrat Annagurbanov, who competed in the weight category up to 100 kg, brought silver to the national team in combat sambo. Another silver is with Yusup Atamyradov (up to 68 kg) in sports sambo. The winners of the bronze awards are Yusup Tanryberdiev (up to 57 kg), Ruslan Esgerov (up to 100 kg) and Ziba Orunova (up to 60 kg).
The tournament dedicated to one of the founders of sambo Anatoly Harlampiev, occupies an important place in the international sports calendar and has been held annually since 1980. This year, the championship gathered over 250 wrestlers from 33 countries.
Turkmen sambists are regular participants of the Harlampiev Memorial World Cup. In last year's tournament, they won 10 medals - 3 silver and 7 bronze.
In February, they successfully performed at the international tournament for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk, where they were awarded ten medals. The achievements of the Turkmen sambists are especially gratifying before the home World Cup, which Turkmenistan will host in 2020..
