Turkmen athlete Umit Amandurdyev received a silver badminton award at the Special Olympics, held these days in the capital of the United Arab Emirates - Abu Dhabi.
Another Turkmenian, Roman Omarov, won a bronze medal in tennis, and Gulnara Allakuliyeva became the fourth in the women's singles category in the same sport
In total, Turkmenistan at the Special Olympics, held every four years, is represented by 15 athletes in 7 sporting disciplines - tennis, table tennis, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, swimming and judo.
The tournament, which started on March 14th, gathered 7.5 thousand athletes from over 170 countries who compete in 24 official Olympic sports. This is not only the largest sporting event, but also a large-scale humanitarian action aimed at adapting people with certain developmental disorders. Accordingly, in competitions there is no goal to record sports records and identify the strongest.
The main achievement of the Special Olympics is the assertion that sport is for everyone. And the courageous, strong-willed participants of such Games are also applauded by the stadiums, as well as at the real World Olympiads.
