Turkmenistan initiates WHO to create a regional center for epidemiology


The decision to build a Research and Production Center for Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology in Turkmenistan, as well as a proposal to create a regional center for this profile, was announced by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov during a meeting with a delegation of the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday.
The WHO delegation was led by Dorit Nitzan, Director of Emergencies for the European Region. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with Regional Director of the WHO European Office, Dr. Hans Kluge, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
An exchange of views took place on the draft roadmap for cooperation between Turkmenistan and WHO, issues of organizing regular high-level meetings in order to accelerate the implementation of joint agreements were discussed.
They discussed Kluge's proposal on the application of the concept of " Integrated Healthcare" in the planning and promotion of the Regional Center for Epidemiology project, as well as proposals to improve the activities of the primary national healthcare sector, the development of the health information base and "digital medicine".
Turkmenistan supports the work of the Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development (Monti Commission), established on the initiative of the head of the WHO European Bureau in September 2020, and joined the Call to Action issued by the Commission in March 2021, Meredov stressed.
