Participants of the 26th International Conference Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan (OGT-2021) joined Expo Dubai 2020 via video link to discuss the transition to a low-carbon future through the use of natural gas and alternative energy sources with high-level delegates of the world exhibition.

The first teleconference held between two major international events became an important event in the business life of the planet and contributed to the development of new effective ideas in the field of environmental protection and climate change.

Dragon Oil CEO Ali Rashid Al Jarwan and Turkmenistan's Ambassador to the UAE Sardarmammet Garajayev joined the discussion from the UAE. The meeting was moderated by Mukhammetmyrat Amanov, Executive Director of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited.

Within the framework of the special session of OGT-2021, video messages were also heard from the Trade Envoy of the British Prime Minister in Turkmenistan Baroness Emma Nicholson, and the chief asset manager of Dragon Oil, Farid Al-Hashmi.

The participants in the dialogue focused on important energy projects in Turkmenistan that can make a significant contribution to reducing harmful emissions.

It was emphasized that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline can provide cheap and environmentally friendly energy to the rapidly developing economies of the countries participating in the project, and the initiatives of official Ashgabat in the field of hydrogen energy can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.

The sharp drop in prices for wind power generators and solar panels and their technical improvement have shown that these renewable energy sources can play an important role in global energy systems. The long-awaited breakthrough in the field of cost-effective technologies for electricity storage, in turn, will significantly change the basic combination of electricity sources.

In her video message to the participants of the conference, Baroness Emma Nicholson Winterbourne presented the vision of the UK concerning the further development of economic cooperation with Turkmenistan, in particular in the field of clean energy.

– Turkmenistan has a huge potential for transition to a low-emission economy and achievement of low-carbon development, as well as all opportunities for the introduction of alternative energy sources, wind energy, solar energy, - said Nicholson, stressing that green energy can become a promising area of cooperation between the two countries.

– Oil and gas are the main energy resources that should be managed efficiently. At the same time, the extraction of these resources should decline, the world community needs to find alternative sources for them," John Hamilton, Charge d'affaires of the British Embassy in Turkmenistan, shared his opinion with ORIENT correspondent.
