The second day of the 26th international conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan" was opened with a session dedicated to the review of investment projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

Director of the Caspian Sea Institute Myrat Atajanov spoke about the experience and prospects of developing hydrocarbon deposits in the Caspian Sea. He stressed that the Caspian region is a subject of interest for a huge number of foreign companies. Turkmenistan, in turn, actively attracts foreign partners for the development of offshore fields in the Caspian Sea.

Dragon oil (Turkmenistan) Ltd, a subsidiary of Dragon oil based in Dubai, is involved in the development of the “Dzheitun” and “Jygalybek” fields, which are part of the Cheleken contract area. A lot of work has also been done here to modernize the offshore oil and gas infrastructure.

In April 2021, major energy company Petronas launched the GDDP-A oil drilling platform (Garagol Deniz drilling platform) in the Caspian Sea, which will contribute to the further successful development of the oil and gas sector in Turkmenistan. The planned production capacity of the Garagol-Deniz West field is 6,700 barrels of black gold per day.

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan signed a memorandum on exploration and development of hydrocarbon resources in the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea - a step that will pave the way for the transit of Turkmenistan's huge gas reserves to Europe.

The session participants agreed that the gradual depletion of world oil and gas reserves on land caused the need for a wider development of the oil and gas resources of the seabed, in the depths of which almost 3 times more oil and gas is concentrated than on land.
