The prospect of opening a logistics center of Turkmenistan on the territory of the port special economic zone of the Astrakhan region was discussed by the General Director of JSC SEZ Lotos Sergey Milushkin and the Turkmen consul Guich Garayev. Against the background of the intensification of trade and economic cooperation in the Caspian region, the establishment of the logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Astrakhan special economic zone will promote the optimization of commodity flows, increase the maneuverability of deliveries in the shortest possible time with the lowest financial costs. The center will become a platform for providing freight forwarding and transport companies with simplified customs, brokerage and other services. Mr. Milushkin welcomed this idea, the implementation of which will give impetus to economic cooperation in the Caspian basin and Turkmen-Russian relations. The General Director of the SEZ Lotos expressed his full readiness to provide all possible assistance to the promotion of this project. In the near future, it is planned to organize an online meeting of the relevant structures from both sides, during which experts will discuss in detail working issues on the creation of a Logistics center of Turkmenistan on the territory of the Astrakhan port special economic zone. Created in 2014, the special economic zone Lotus is located on a plot of over a thousand hectares in the Astrakhan region on the banks of the Volga River. Today, this territory has been transformed into a dynamically developing industrial and logistics cluster, where all the benefits of a preferential tax regime are open to investors. The location of the SEZ in the Caspian region opens up access to the international market. Since this year, the SEZ Lotos was merged with the new port SEZ, located in the area of the seaport of Olya. As a result, it was formed the Caspian cluster, which will become the main cargo base for the North–South international transport corridor, connecting the countries of Northern and Western Europe with Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The necessary infrastructure is already being created on the allocated territory, as well as investment projects are being implemented. Today, Lotos is the only industrial SEZ of Russia in the Caspian region. Currently, work with Turkmen, Indian, and Iranian partners is conducted to form a cargo base for the container line being created here.
