The Strategy aims at strengthening the national legislation of Turkmenistan by introducing the best international experience to reduce vulnerability and increase resilience of children and adolescents of Turkmenistan towards climate change impacts and the natural hazards. It also encourages to improve the national normative framework of Turkmenistan by introducing the key provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and in alignment with the UN Sendai Framework for 2021-2025 and the National Strategy on Climate Change of Turkmenistan.

“UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, reaching the world’s most disadvantaged children, saving their lives, defending their rights, helping them fulfil their potential. Our experience enables us to support the Government, to implement its commitments under the Sendai Framework related to disaster risk reduction and to strengthen the resilience of the population of Turkmenistan. The forthcoming DRR strategy will ensure children’s rights are safeguarded in all situations, including in potential emergencies.” - says Alexandru Nartea, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Turkmenistan.

UNICEF in Turkmenistan will continue to expand its partnerships and support country efforts in implementation of the disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation measures as well as to strengthen preparedness for emergency situations.
