The head of «Areti» voiced new ideas for the development of the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea
On Tuesday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the head of the “Areti” International Group of Companies Igor Makarov. The main topics of the meeting were the issues of cooperation in the oil and gas, as well as in the construction and transport spheres, among which the key, of course, is the fuel and energy complex.
Makarov has been working in this area for 27 years, after “Itera» signed a contract with Turkmenistan in 1994, becoming the first private gas company in the post-Soviet space, which, in addition to oil and gas production, carried out geological exploration and development of hydrocarbon fields that were considered at that time of low profit. But Makarov proved that with the introduction of modern technologies, they can give good results.
Therefore, during the meeting of the Turkmen leader with the head of “Areti”, the main emphasis was placed on the issues of diversifying gas export routes, increasing hydrocarbon production, as well as gas and oil refineries. In this regard, Makarov voiced new ideas related to the development of the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea.
Makarov has rich experience and in this direction. In May this year, the Turkmen capital hosted an international forum to attract investments in the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, during which it was mentioned that there are production sharing agreements for a number of offshore blocks with foreign companies, including “Areti”, headed by Igor Makarov.
Two weeks earlier, President Berdimuhamedov held a video meeting with the heads of leading foreign companies, during which the director general and partner of the law firm King & Spalding, Andrew Khrusk, made a number of proposals for cooperation with Turkmenistan. In response to this, the Turkmen leader recommended “Areti” as a liaison and partner.
And also from what concerns the fuel and energy complex: in August 2019, the head of state Berdimuhamedov appointed the head of the international group of companies “Areti” Igor Makarov as a specialist expert under the adviser to the president of Turkmenistan on oil and gas issues.
And in the current period of energy-price confusion, the rich practical and organizational experience of Igor Makarov, as we see it, will be especially in demand.
His new company, which emerged in 2015 with an obscure name "Areti", turned out to be just the name of his former company, read from right to left, with the same obscure name - "Itera", which, in general, means "to repeat" from Latin. Apparently, this is the meaning that Makarov originally put into the idea of creating his own company - this is something akin to the familiar to us from childhood “Repetition is the mother of learning!”.
So Igor Makarov's ingenuity, as well as his sense of humor, is not to be missed, and during the period of cardinal changes in the market, both of them may become in demand.
