Turkmen Statistics Committee and IMF held a series of seminars on GDP and other indicators calculating methods


At a meeting on February 10 with the participation of leaders of the financial, economic and banking sectors, the State Statistics Committee Turkmenistan was instructed by the President of the country to improve the GDP and other macroeconomic indicators calculating methods, based on modern economic theory and the best international practice.
To this end, the Turkmen Statistics Committee, jointly with the IMF, organized a series of online seminars from 15 to 19 February.
In the course of virtual consultations, methodological approaches based on international standards for improving GDP calculations by the final consumption method, calculations of exports and imports of goods and services were considered. Issues were also discussed related to measuring household consumption, weight indices of retail trade and paid services turnover, formation of calculations for tourism, as well as accounting of subsidies and taxes in the system of national accounts.
Following the seminars, methodological recommendations were developed for the further improvement of a system of statistical data in Turkmenistan.
