Turkey and Azerbaijan are interested in the transit of Turkmen gas to European markets

Turkmenistan will become a full member of the council at the meeting of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council), which Turkey will assume the chairmanship of next month, and the name of the council will be changed to "Organization of Turkic-speaking States". On this occasion, the Turkish news agency Ihlas quotes the opinion of the president of the Atlas Research Center, Elhan Shahinoglu, who said that with the participation of Turkmenistan in the Turkic Council, the organization will increase its influence and attractiveness. And then the Council will cover all the Turkic-speaking countries.
Shahinoglu noted that the Turkic-speaking countries are also striving to strengthen economic integration.

"Azerbaijan and Turkey will be connected to each other by land through the Zangezur corridor. This transport project is also important for the countries of Central Asia. This way they will be able to get to Turkey. Turkey will also have access to the Turkic-speaking countries of Central Asia through the Zangezur Corridor and the Caspian Sea. This is one of the reasons for Turkmenistan's participation in the Turkic Council," Shahinoglu said.
On the other hand, he continued that "Turkey and Azerbaijan are interested in transporting Turkmen gas through their territories to European markets. Ashgabat also wants this. Therefore, the access of Turkmen gas from the bottom of the Caspian Sea to alternative markets, including Azerbaijan and Turkey, will be discussed in the near future. These discussions can also be held within the framework of the upcoming meeting of the Turkic Council."
