Turkmen weightlifters fight for Olympic points in Iran


Four athletes from Turkmenistan take part in the 4th International Fajr Weightlifting Cup (4th International Fajr Cup), which started March 1st in Tehran (Iran). The competitions that gathered the strongest weightlifters from 20 countries are the silver qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. For the "quartet" of the Turkmen weightlifters, performing in the weight categories of 73, 81 and 96 kg, the tournament in Iran was the beginning of the accumulation of points for trips to the 2020 Olympics. The main team of the Turkmen national team, having passed two qualifications, is intensively preparing for the upcoming Asian Championship in April. Among the technical representatives at the Fajr Cup is Sapa Sapaev, a judge from Turkmenistan. At the World Federation of International Weightlifting Championships, which ended on February 27 in the Chinese city of Fuzhou, the Turkmen weightlifter Seitzhan Mirzayev (55 kg) won a bronze medal, raising 231 kg in total. The weightlifter also won a small bronze medal in the “push” discipline (125 kg) and a silver medal in the snatch (106 kg).
