Agro-industrial complex of Turkmenistan: to attract unused reserves


On Wednesday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has held a working session with the heads of departments in charge for agriculture of Turkmenistan and regional administrations, who delivered reports on key industry outcomes for 2020.
The Head of State emphasized there are unused reserves in the development of the agro-industrial complex, including scientific, innovative components, and gave specific instructions to managers.
The President focused on issues related to the digitization of agricultural production, introduction of advanced technologies and effective management methods, as well as more active attraction of investments.
It is necessary to ensure stable management of sown areas and pastures, their rational use, taking into account ecological significance and economic efficiency, to develop seed production, mastering the best foreign practice in this area. Enterprises for processing agricultural products, food-processing facilities must work at full capacity, the Turkmen leader said.
Having regard to the state of the global economy, it is necessary to expand the range and increase the production of in-demand food products. The import of material and technical means for the food industry and agro-industrial complex should be organized based on direct contacts with manufacturers.
Berdimuhamedov demanded to speed up the creation of the State Land Cadastre, its software and staff provision.
The Head of State gave instructions to introduce new approaches to the water resources management, to use wider the low-cost methods of irrigation and world achievements in land reclamation and fight against soil salinization.
To get high yields, it is necessary to find real owners of the land and master advanced experience, the President said, addressing the heads of the regions.
The Vice-Premier, who oversees the agro-industrial complex in the government, and other leaders of the agricultural sector were instructed to take measures to increase the productivity of its industries, including crop, poultry, meat and dairy, processing, etc.
The state policy of Turkmenistan in the agro-industrial complex is aimed at improving the quality of life of the rural population by implementing measures to create new small and medium-sized enterprises, improve living conditions and develop social infrastructure.
At the same time, the products of the country’s agro-industrial complex should be competitive both nationally and internationally.
