Turkmenistan and Tajikistan discussed issues of effective water use in the region


Experts of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan held an online video meeting on water use. Representatives of the Department of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, Executive committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the State committee for water management of Turkmenistan took part in the discussion.
Colleagues considered results of water consumption in the region and its predicted volumes for 2021, analysed present and perspective modes of water currents of the basic rivers.
The parties gave particular attention to realisation of the tasks designated in the Joint statement, accepted on the Summit of heads of the states-founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in August, 2018 in Avaza. For development of the balanced solutions in this area, Turkmenistan, in particular, calls for unification of efforts on the basis of international law with participation of the authoritative organisations and taking into account interests of all countries of the region.
Turkmen and Tajik experts were unanimous that economic development and social well-being of the countries of the region depend on general access to water resources and their effective application for agricultural needs. They confirmed readiness to continue actively to work over important issues of improvement of social and economic and ecological situation in the pool of the Aral Sea, rational use of water, preservation of the environment and adaptation to climate change.
