Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov has discussed a joint work for current year with the heads and representatives of the UN and its agencies in the country and in the region. The session was held on Tuesday, in the hybrid format – some participants were present in the conference hall, while others joined the meeting via video conferencing. Around 30 country and regional heads and representatives of the UN, including the Office of Resident Coordinator, UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), International Labour Organization (ILO) and others took part in the session. The head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan thanked the participants of the meeting for their active cooperation and personal input into the expansion of dialogue. “Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations is a strategic vector of the external policy of the country and to date, the collaboration covers almost all main spheres – from security to gender equality issues, from ecology matters to the protection of refugees’ rights,” said Meredov. During the meeting, measures on implementation of plans and projects determined for current year, including those provided by the documents signed between Turkmenistan and international organizations in December 2020, were discussed. These are 44 documents to the total sum exceeding $ 82 million US dollars, with the largest share to be co-financed by Turkmenistan itself. Education, healthcare and social services, food security and ecology are among the main areas of interaction. In addition, the issues related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework between the Government of Turkmenistan and the United Nations for 2021-2025 were considered. The Roadmap of holding the International Year of Peace and Trust, the event to mark its launch held the other day in Ashgabat, was one of the topics of the session.
