Hydro-diplomacy and modern methods of water resources management

The OSCE Center in Ashgabat organized a two-day online seminar, which discussed the experience of introducing digital technologies in the water industry, according to the organization's website.
Experts from Switzerland and Morocco shared the best practices of OSCE participating States on the implementation of innovative developments and digital technologies for sustainable water resources management. Special attention was paid to such aspects as the irrigation sector, water conservation, water supply.

“We all know how acute the issue of climate change is at the global level, as well as how its consequences are exacerbating water scarcity in areas with limited water resources. That is why it is vital to improve their management which will help to support efforts on climate change mitigation and adaptation to them,” said William Leaf, acting head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.
Given the technological progress of the 21st century, digital tools and innovative approaches are integral principles to achieving sustainable development in the environmental sphere in general, and in the water industry in particular.

“Recent innovative and technological changes, which offer great opportunities for rational and sustainable water management, are necessary for the development of effective national water use systems, as well as the development of an effective legal and financial framework for international cooperation on water and hydro-diplomacy,” added Leaf.
