New UN Resident Coordinator arrives in Ashgabat


The new UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, who replaced Elena Panova in this post, arrived in Ashgabat.
Today he met with Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. The diplomats reviewed current and promising projects, discussed key areas of cooperation. The importance of the initiatives of Turkmenistan in the field of energy, transport, ecology, healthcare and others, supported by the UN General Assembly resolutions, was especially emphasized, the website of the foreign ministries of the countries reports.
During the meeting, the importance of joint events held in the International Year of Peace and Confidence was noted, the implementation of the Framework Program for Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN for 2021-2025 was discussed. Common strategic objectives include people-centered governance and the rule of law, green and sustainable economic growth, inclusive and affordable healthcare, education and social protection.
Dmitry Shlapachenko said that, leading the UN team in the country, he will make every effort to develop cooperation between the UN and Turkmenistan in the interests of world peace, stability and prosperity.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan Natia Natsvlishvili, who is completing her mission in the country.
After analyzing the common achievements over the past years, as well as considering joint activities in recent months, the interlocutors emphasized the effectiveness of cooperation, including in the field of management, economic diversification, healthcare and the environment.
It was noted that, as an active UN development agency, UNDP instills effective expertise on the Turkmen side in the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including the transition to a greener economy, sustainable agriculture, digitalization, as well as improving the social protection system, access to inclusive medical services, etc.
