Turkmenistan confirmed its participation in the first games of the CIS countries in the Russian city of Kazan from September 4 to 11, it follows from the statement of the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov at a briefing for journalists.

According to him, 1.5 thousand athletes from 10 countries - Turkmenistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - will take part in the competition.

Competitions in 16 sports are planned for the Games. In total, 184 sets of medals will be played.

The initiative to hold games of the CIS countries was approved by the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers (CIS CFM) at a meeting in Ashgabat on October 10, 2019. The first games were planned to be held in 2020, but they were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is expected that in the future the games will be held alternately in the CIS member states, once every 2 years and with a total duration of up to 10 days.
