Turkmen sambists win medals at international tournament in Minsk


Seven medals were won by Turkmen wrestlers on the first day of the international sambo tournament for the prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk. More than 300 strongest sambo wrestlers gathered for the annual championship of the highest category for recruiting rating points that will lead them on the list of the best fighters of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS). The main competition for the Turkmen wrestlers was the tournament hosts, as well as athletes from Ukraine. Following the results of the first day the arsenal of the Turkmen team has 1 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze awards. Ahmet Tanriberdiev was awarded the highest standard in combat sambo in the weight category up to 57 kg, the second in this discipline was another Turkmen Karim Allanurov. Gulnar Khaitbayeva (up to 64 kg), Begenchmyrat Kakabayev (up to 82 kg) and Ruslan Esgerov (up to 90 kg) in sports sambo also brought silver to the treasury of the national team. The Turkmen citizens Dovran Ataev (up to 68 kg) and Babadzhan Ivadullayev (up to 100 kg) won bronze medals in combat sambo. Mentors of Turkmen athletes expect the second competition day to be as rich in medals for them, and they will be able to compete for the special prizes of the tournament - “For the Will to Win” and “Best Technique”. Among the 10 Turkmen sambo wrestlers who will come out on the carpet, there are Asian champions, winners and runners-up of the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games of 2017. At the end of March, the Turkmen national team intends to compete at the Sambo World Cup “Memorial of A.A. Kharlampiev” to be held in Moscow.
