A club from Turkmenistan may be participant of the Emirates Hockey League

The management of the Emirates Hockey League (EHL) is interested to improve the quality of the UAE and bring new exposure to the level of play and create bridges with one of the best leagues in Europe, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The EHL is set on expanding the league to interstate Asian level, where teams from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Georgia will be able to take part in tournaments, which in turn will attract highly qualified young players from Europe and Russia to play with the Emirati and expat members of the EHL. Vladimir Burdun, who has been appointed as the new President of the EHL in October 2018, believes, that formidable UAE team, by 2021, will be ready to play at international level as a KHL Championship participant. “We will negotiate with the KHL and will form a team that to be comprised of former NHL stars, who will ensure a result very soon. Are players like those that Datsyuk and Mozyakin will play for the UAE team? I think these people can easily play in our team. We are also following Alexander Ovechkin and Yevgeny Malkin, who will return from the NHL in the future. We are ready to talk with them and discuss details of the contracts,” Vladimir Burdun foresees. The national team of Turkmenistan is getting prepared for the World Hockey Championship. For the first time in history, the Turkmen team made their way to the IIHF World Championship Division III, where they will play against the teams of Bulgaria, Luxembourg, South Africa, China and Turkey.Georgiy ASLANYAN
