COVID-19 forecast for the next decade
American scientists consider, that the COVID-19 outbreak is expected to move from pandemic to endemic form in a decade and remain at a constant baseline in the population. At the same time, endemic SARS-CoV-2 can become a disease of early childhood, when the human body first encounters the virus at the age of 3 to 5 years. Scientists also do not rule out that older people can also get sick with coronavirus, but they will already have immune protection against its severe course. The authors of the study note that if the coronavirus becomes endemic and it is mild in children, then large-scale vaccination may not be required. In their opinion, vaccination in the future should be gradually canceled, keeping it for a longer period for certain age groups, EurekAlert (USA) – an online science news service that features events in the field of health, medicine, science and technology from leading research institutes and universities, writes. Earlier, Professor of the Department of Virology at the Belozersky Institute of Moscow State University Alexey Agranovsky noted that we should not expect a sharp reduction in the number of new cases of coronavirus. He emphasized that this process will be gradual. According to Pr. Agranovsky, vaccination against COVID-19 will play an important role.
