IATA prepares to launch a mobile application
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has developed the Travel Pass mobile app to help travelers easily and safely manage their trips to meet any COVID-19 testing requirements.
“Testing is an immediate solution to the safely opening of borders and restoring contacts between people. A secure system is essential for managing COVID-19 testing or vaccination information. The IATA Travel Pass App is a solution that both travelers and governments can trust”, said Alexandre de Juniac, CEO of IATA.
The traveler’s mobile device stores encrypted data, including verified test results or vaccination. The traveler controls what information is transmitted from his phone to airlines and authorities.
Laboratories have generally accepted safety standards for managing and verifying test results for individuals. In this regard, IATA cooperates with known laboratories in order to reliably link their test results to the verified identity of the IATA Travel Pass holder.
The IATA Travel Pass will also provide an opportunity for convenient contactless travel from check-in to boarding.
“We create the IATA Travel Pass with one goal to help securely reunite our world. We can work with industry and governments to transform travel experiences based on global standards”, IATA Vice President Nick Karin said.
The app is to be released in the first quarter of 2021.
