“Children of Asia”: luck of figure skaters and fiasco of hockey players of Turkmenistan

The Ist International Winter Sport Games “Children of Asia” are continued in Russian Federation. Figure skating girls have started the contest for medals. From the morning, the figure skaters were busy with official training session, which ended 45 minutes before the start of the competitions. In figure skating, Turkmenistan is represented by Ayna Ekeeva, the 8th grade school student of Ashgabat school No. 64, and Larisa Vahitova, the 7th grade school student of school No. 37.Viktor KARDASHOV
The figure skating competitions are held traditionally in two stages, and today the participants presented their short programmes in single skating.
... The stands are nearly full, the ice-filling machine drove to the site. The announcer represents the referee team and technical arbitrators, who control the performance of technical elements that are quit complex and sometimes almost acrobatic. It is hard to believe even that these girls, who are still very young, perfectly master the art of ice dancing...
Figure skaters, who are under 16 age, are divided into six groups. Larisa Vahitova is second in the second group while Ayna Ekeeva in the third.
The figure skaters from first group are invited for warming-up. We are looking forward to the performance of the first representative of Turkmenistan in this new sport for the hot country.
It’s time to welcome Larisa Vahitova on the ice. After a short warming-up, the performance starts. The choice of music is correct, the figure skater performs with confidence, and she managed to overcome the usual pre-start fever. Everything looks good, including the skate dress of the representative of Turkmenistan and the performance of the comples technical elements, which, seems, Larisa easy comes with.
The spectators praised the performance of the Turkmen skater and gave her long applauses. There is no free stands. At the end of the performance, we are waiting for the evaluation from judges.
The total points of the competitor in the short program consist of two assessments: technical elements – for the technique and performance of complex technical elements of skating; and presentation – for artistic skills.
When the performance is completed, Larisa Vahitova and her coach (at the same time, she is the figure skater’s mother) Yana Vahitova took the places in special zone. The excitement of the young skater and her coach is understandable, since the “Children of Asia” Games is a quit serious tournament to check the readiness of our skaters to participate in “adult” competitions in future.
Larisa Vahitova got 16,82 points for technical performance and 16,34 points for artistic presentation. Our girl is on the third place in total count in short programme with final 33.16 points.
After a short break to fill the ice, we are waiting for the performance of Ayna Ekeeva.
After the short warming-up, the participants of the third group, including the Turkmen figure skater trained under the guidance of Karina Movsesyan, are welcomed on the ice.
Ayna Ekeeva is in dark silver dress with pink accessories. Both girls, who represent Turkmen figure skating, were very careful in choosing of skating outfits and did it with good taste, as it is a component of successful performance that affect to the overall count. That is true!
Figure skater from Ashgabat comes to the ice. It is a rock-and-roll! A very spectacular performance, which, like the presentation of the first participant from Turkmenistan, was praised a lot again.
The coach carefully puts the jacket to the skater’s shoulders with a, and they took the seats at the special zone to wait for the evaluation.
The result of Ayna Ekeeva is a bit lower – 19.97 points and the 12th position in intermediate count. We hope that the girls will successfully perform in free programme on February 15.
Turkmenistan ice-hockey team that plays in Division B at the Ist International Winter Sport Games “Children of Asia” had its third match in the Group on February 13. The team of Ural Federal District (Russia), which is leading in B Group, was the opponent of our sportsmen. In the result, Russian team was the winner of group round.
Having deservingly playing in all three matches, our team did not take high positions in the tournament, however, meeting with strong opponents, received great playing practice, which would be irreplaceable for participation of different international tournaments in future.
The young figure skaters and hockey players from Turkmenistan, the country where the snow is an exotic, are in the beginning of long complicated way. It was hard to compete against the strong Russian team on the ice, who felt like a duck in water. Despite the fact that skate sports is a quit young for Turkmen sportsmen, the progress is visible already. Of course, we have an optimistic point of view for tomorrow.
Today, it was difficult, very difficult for the “children of the sun” to compete against the “kings of ice”. What tomorrow will bring? As they say, time will tell. After all, difficult does not mean impossible...
