United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called to devote 2021 to getting rid of the aftereffects of the coronavirus: remedying the economy, society and the planet as a whole, the UN press service reports. In the New Year’s message, the Secretary-General noted that 2020 has become the year of trials, tragedies and tears, and the COVID-19 pandemic has turned people’s lives upside down. He pointed out that ahead is the New Year, along with which a silver lining is seen. Guterres called upon everyone to come to terms with each other and with nature, overcome the climate crisis and stop the spread of COVID-19. “Let’s make 2021 a year of healing”, he said. The UN Secretary-General drew attention to the fact that people are extending a helping hand to each other in reducing poverty, inequality, hunger and violence caused by the pandemic. Thanks to unity and solidarity, the rays of hope will reach all parts of the world, the Secretary-General is convinced. “Together we will save ourselves from the deadly virus. Let’s make 2021 the year of healing, remedying a disrupted economy and society, eliminating the split and healing of our planet”, he concluded.
